Please join me on a new adventure….homeschooling. This is our first year homeschooling and I’m sure it will be an adventure. With curves and bumps and beauty all thrown together. What kind of adventure would it be if it were all “smooth sailing”? (Remind me I said this on days when it’s rough). Lego Man will be taking his adventure into 1st grade. Little Helper is Pre-K, but is very excited as well.

We received our books and all those goodies several days ago. Yesterday I spent most of my day looking at teacher’s manuals, planning lessons and reading the introduction to the books we will be using. We are enrolled in the Christian Liberty Academy CLASS program. Each subject requires daily work, tests and/or Report & Identification (R&I) Sheets to be turned in to the school. Lego Man will receive report cards.

We will be jumping into this new adventure tomorrow. Lesson plans are made, but I need to decide what the order of the day will be. The first couple of weeks should be pretty easy as far as the subject matter goes. Which will be nice for us to work into a routine and get a feel for how our day will proceed.

Here are some of my goals:
1. To do my best to get up a bit before the boys and get a shower and get myself ready for the day. This is going to be difficult for me, but I think it will be very important to get our day started on the right foot.
2. To remember that the books are important, but to also be flexible and use other learning activities and teaching opportunities as well.
3. To be patient as we all learn new things together.
4. To instill in our boys a joy for learning.

I realize that not everyone agrees with the decision to homeschool and that is ok. At this time, we feel that this is the best decision for our family. Differences in opinion will happen, but I hope that any comments made can be respectful, even when stating differing opinions.

Come along and be a part of our adventure in learning.  Stop in here to learn more about us. What boy doesn’t love a good adventure? I hope good memories will be made along the way.
